This year I am so excited to be teaching Pre-K!
We are in Week 4 of the school year and the children are getting used to our daily routines.
Our typical schedule:
Arrival...the students put their backpacks away, move their names to take their own attendance and find a book to read independently on the carpet.
Morning Meeting...we usually read a story, sing a few songs, talk about plans for the day, etc...
Start Our Day...the children choose which learning centers they will visit and study...choices typically include: sand table, water table, snack center, housekeeping area, play doh, wood working, blocks, legos, writing center, math/puzzles/games, painting easel, scissors center, etc...
Clean Up
Wrap Up Meeting...children often talk about the best part of their day, we sing a song, read a book, do our calendar, etc...
Recess...our outside play is a great time for the students to reinforce their socializing skills, as well as develop their gross motor skills. We often have tricycles and scooters available, wood blocks, balls, sand, and large play structures. Studies have shown that outside play helps children better succeed inside the classroom.

(On Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays, we work in small groups also. Mrs. Barding (our school's speech pathologist), Mrs. Patrick and I all take a small group and work on developing a skill...often with a focus on literacy, speech, and math. The groups rotate through the week so all the children have the chance to work with all the adults.)
