PM Class

 We cannot go outside when it is this cold...however, the pre-k standards that we adhere to mandate 30 minutes of gross motor activities everyday...so when we have to stay inside,  I put exercise videos designed for children up on the SmartBoard. The kids love them, it gets some of their wiggles out, and strengthens muscles they use later for learning. This day we had a Children's Yoga video and it was awesome!

Morning Class

 A great way for us to further engage the students academically is to ask them to sketch/draw what they built...this develops writing, cognitive, literacy skills...as well as strengthening language when they discuss their work.

 George drew and described...perfect for assessment! He has writing, conversation, and math skills demonstrated.

 I brought out Literacy Baskets today to put around the classroom. The children loved them. The baskets hold colored paper, index cards, colored pencils, markers, alphabet stickers, glue sticks, scissors, tape, etc...   It was fun to see some of my students who tend to stay away from writing centers spend a lot of engaged time writing.

 Broghen spent a large part of his playing time with a Literacy Basket.

 Several of my friends were strengthening hand muscles with the playdoh...this helps with writing skills.

Reminder

Just a reminder that:
our Pre-K students will have teacher and classroom aide substitutes Thursday, January 16.
 the students will not have school this Friday or Monday (January 17,20).

January 15, PM Class

 Our block area received a lot of traffic this afternoon!

 Ellie was busy at the arts and crafts table.

 Some of the students talked our school nurse, Mrs. Holstein, into working some puzzles with them.
